Karnataka sells all 8,000 philately passports within hours

The Karnataka Postal Circle sold all 8,000 of its new philately passports in Bengaluru, Mangaluru, Mysuru and Belagavi on October 10 and 11.

The passports were sold in limited numbers, with 3,500 allocated to Bengaluru and 1,500 each to the other three cities.

Buyers included stamp collectors and people interested in travel, and some waited in long queues for several hours.

Each passport costs ₹600 and contains 100 unique pictorial cancellations, which are special marks applied to stamps.

Sales were limited to one passport per person and handled on a first-come, first-served basis.

The strong demand means buyers have a new reason to travel around Karnataka and collect the cancellations.

The postal circle had already warned people on social media when the passports sold out.
