Nine killed in renewed Naga-Kuki violence across three Manipur districts
At least nine people were killed in renewed Naga-Kuki violence across three districts of Manipur in 24 hours.
Officials said six of those killed were Nagas, two were Kukis and one was of Nepalese origin.
The deaths were reported in Kamjong, Kangpokpi and Ukhrul, where Naga and Kuki communities live.
In Kamjong, a Kuki woman was killed during an exchange of fire between security forces and an armed group near Chassad, as forces moved to remove illegal bunkers.
Two Naga village guards were later killed in the district, and three more were killed in an attack in Kangpokpi.
At least 14 homes were set on fire as tensions rose.
The chief minister condemned the violence and ordered authorities to take steps to restore peace and order.
Police said an investigation into one of the attacks was under way, but there was no official confirmation about possible involvement by armed groups from across the India-Myanmar border.
