BPCE builds a 7% stake in Sabadell, mostly through derivatives
French bank BPCE has built a 7% stake in Spain’s Sabadell using a mix of shares and financial contracts.
It bought 2.84% of the bank’s shares directly, while a derivative accounted for the other 4.16%.
BPCE disclosed the derivative on October 6, and the contract expired on October 13, when the stake was formally confirmed.
The two banks have left open the option for BPCE to increase its holding to as much as 9.9% and discuss business partnerships.
