Alsa says 43.3% of its urban and metropolitan fleet is eco or zero-emission
Spanish bus company Alsa says 43.3% of its urban and metropolitan fleet in Spain is eco or zero-emission.
That figure includes electric, hybrid, gas-powered and other cleaner-fuel buses, not only zero-emission vehicles.
Alsa aims to make all its urban buses zero-emission by 2035 and its long-distance buses by 2040.
The company says it will use different technologies, including electricity, hydrogen and advanced biofuels, depending on what works best.
In 2025, it added 134 alternative-fuel vehicles in Spain and used five million litres of HVO biofuel on long-distance services.
Alsa says that HVO use saved more than 12,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide.
The company says electric buses face challenges including driving range, charging infrastructure and the cost of replacing fleets.
The targets depend on cleaner technologies becoming more affordable and practical to use.

What people are saying
It is precisely in urban operations where the electric bus has proved to be a more effective solution, and where it can meet the range needs of diesel vehicles.
There are still major technical challenges in achieving this in terms of range, charging infrastructure and, especially, a policy of incentives and support for fleet renewal.
