Three companies recall broccoli seeds linked to a Salmonella outbreak

Three companies are recalling broccoli seeds sold online in the United States because a batch was linked to a Salmonella outbreak.

The affected seeds were sold under the Eden Brothers, Home Grown and Gardeners Basics brands.

The US Food and Drug Administration found Salmonella in a seed sample that matched the outbreak strain.

By October 7, 32 people in Idaho, Minnesota, Montana, Oregon, Utah and Washington had become ill, and three had been hospitalized.

Most of the people interviewed by health officials said they had eaten broccoli sprouts or microgreens before getting sick.

Anyone with the recalled seeds should stop using them, seal them in a bag and put them in household trash, not compost.

The FDA is investigating this outbreak separately from another outbreak linked to alfalfa sprouts.
