Pennsylvania records sixth measles-associated death this year

A 39-year-old woman in Pennsylvania has died after contracting measles, bringing the state’s total to six measles-associated deaths this year.

The Franklin County coroner said she had several underlying health conditions and a past measles diagnosis.

Officials have not said whether she was vaccinated.

Pennsylvania has recorded 1,136 measles cases this year, including 157 in the last week, and 219 hospitalizations.

Less than 1% of cases were in people who had received both doses of the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine.

The death adds to the toll of a measles outbreak in the state, but officials have not announced what happens next.
