Pattinson says Primetime is not an indictment of Chris Hansen

Robert Pattinson stars as television host Chris Hansen in Primetime, a psychological thriller directed by Lance Oppenheim.

The film dramatizes the making of To Catch a Predator, a US reality series that aired from 2004 to 2007.

The show used sting operations to expose people suspected of targeting children.

It was taken off the air in 2008 after a Texas sting involving assistant district attorney Bill Conradt, who died by suicide when police and a camera crew entered his home.

Pattinson says the film is a portrait, not a judgment of Hansen as a person.

Screenwriter Ajon Singh adapted the story from a 2007 Esquire article and said the filmmakers did not set out to moralize about vigilante justice.

The film examines the public shaming around the show and raises questions about why audiences watch it.

It was screened at the BFI London Film Festival; the sources do not say when it will be released.
