Resident Evil Becomes the Franchise’s Highest-Grossing Film

The latest Resident Evil film has earned $320.2 million worldwide after playing in theaters for four weekends.

It is the first film in the horror franchise to reach that total, surpassing 2016’s Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, which earned $314.1 million worldwide.

The film opened in China, Japan and other territories after a $60 million opening weekend in the United States.

Its success comes as the Resident Evil franchise, created by Capcom, remains active across films and games.

The new film is also director Zach Cregger’s highest-grossing movie so far.

A sequel has not been approved, and Cregger says his next movie will not be a Resident Evil film, though he has ideas for what a sequel could do.

I've already got other ideas of what could happen. But my next movie is already kind of in place here, and it's not a Resident Evil movie — I'm gonna go make something else. But on the other side of that, who knows? Who can say? Anything could happen,
