A parts comparison puts a similar DIY PC above the Steam Machine’s $1,049 price

The Steam Machine is a compact gaming computer priced at $1,049.

An XDA writer estimated that a PC built from similar retail parts would cost $1,133.

The comparison is not exact because Valve uses custom components, and the estimate does not include assembly.

It suggests that building a similar PC yourself may not save money.
