Tijuana has Mexico’s highest number of recorded disappearances
Tijuana had the highest number of recorded disappearances among 100 municipalities in Mexico, with 3,300 cases.
The figures come from official records analyzed by Red Lupa, a civil society organization.
The analysis found that 100 municipalities accounted for 55,077 cases from 2021 through 2025, or 58.13% of all disappearances in that period.
These municipalities are spread across 24 states, and 82 are in metropolitan areas.
Reynosa and Nuevo Laredo, both in Tamaulipas, ranked second and third after Tijuana.
The analysis also found that 38 municipalities had a higher share of missing women than the national average used in the study; Álvaro Obregón and Tlalpan in Mexico City had especially high shares.
The figures show that disappearances are concentrated in particular places, while the analysis did not explain why one smaller municipality, Atlautla, had an unusually high rate.
