Renault may reduce planned French investment if conditions remain unstable

Renault CEO François Provost says the company needs economic, social and political stability to continue investing in France.

Renault has said it would invest €13 billion by 2030, but Provost now describes the plan as more than €10 billion.

He says the company may review its investment if conditions do not allow it to continue.

France accounts for 20% of Renault’s revenue, and the company employs 38,000 people there.

Renault is also reorganising engineering at its Technocentre in Guyancourt, where more than 700 of 5,700 positions are to be cut, while hiring 150 engineers in China.

Provost also sees early pressure on the prices of cars leased to customers over several years as interest rates rise.

The company’s future investment in France depends on whether the conditions it has called for are in place.
