Cyberattack disrupts refrigeration systems at hundreds of French supermarkets

A cyberattack struck refrigeration systems at hundreds of supermarkets in France during the night of October 11 to 12.

Intermarché said 150 to 200 of its stores were affected, while Coopérative U said fewer than 100 of its outlets were hit.

The attack targeted systems used to control refrigeration equipment, and temperatures in some stores reportedly rose as high as 50 degrees.

Some stores had to throw away fresh and frozen food that could no longer be sold.

The incident is serious because these systems help preserve food and support the country’s food supply.

Intermarché and Coopérative U said they were responding to the disruption, and Coopérative U set up crisis teams to work with refrigeration specialists.

A broadcaster also reported that E.Leclerc stores were affected, but the company had not confirmed this.
