TotalEnergies expects diesel prices to fall after strategic stocks are released

TotalEnergies chief executive Patrick Pouyanné said fuel prices at the company’s French stations should fall after strategic oil stocks are released.

The release of 10 million barrels is due to start in early November.

Pouyanné expects regular diesel for private drivers to become 8 to 12 cents cheaper per litre.

That is less than the 12-to-18-cent reduction suggested by the prime minister.

He expects non-road diesel, used by farmers, construction businesses and fishers, to fall by 20 cents per litre.

TotalEnergies also plans to keep a price cap of €2.25 per litre for private drivers.

The expected cuts matter because they could reduce fuel costs for households and businesses, though the figures are estimates.

The range given by the Prime Minister, according to which the release of 10 million barrels from strategic stocks would lead to a decrease of 12 to 18 cents, for us will be more like 8 to 12, so around ten cents.
