The AK Party said 136 people from different political parties joined it at a meeting in Istanbul.

The event was organised by the party’s Istanbul branch and focused on local government.

The new members included people who had previously held roles in the CHP, İYİ Party, Future Party, DEVA Party, New Welfare Party, Anahtar Party and DEM Party.

AK Party deputy chairman Mustafa Demir said local government should focus on people and involve residents.

Istanbul branch head Abdullah Özdemir said the party’s number of municipalities in the city had increased through party switches and council votes for deputy mayors.

He also said AK Party municipalities had helped start cleaning work in the Adalar district after equipment problems.

The party said it would follow upcoming deputy mayor elections in Ataşehir and Eyüpsultan.
