Bolu court accepts indictment against 14 in municipal tender case

A court in Bolu, Turkey, has accepted an indictment against 14 people over alleged misconduct at BOL TUR, a company linked to the city municipality.

The two people in custody include municipal official Özgür Nihat Yıldız and traders’ association head Mustafa Altındal.

Prosecutors allege that irregularities in food-basket purchases, vehicle rentals and the transfer of a municipal property caused public losses and brought improper gains.

In one case, they say records showed 15,000 food boxes were delivered, although only 12,000 arrived.

The indictment also alleges that money was routed to Yıldız’s personal account and that the company paid for a luxury car he used.

Prosecutors have asked for prison sentences for all 14 defendants, with the requested terms varying by person and alleged offense.

The court’s acceptance means the case can proceed; the allegations have not been proven in court.
