Daejeon plans annual 500,000-won payments for about 5,200 farmers
Daejeon plans to give eligible farmers 500,000 won each year through its local currency.
The payments are aimed at people who rely mainly on farming for their livelihood.
The city says farming also helps protect nature and preserve traditions, even when those benefits are not reflected in market prices.
The plan would give Daejeon farmers support already offered in most other parts of the country.
