Hans-Peter Portmann will not seek re-election to National Council in 2027
Hans-Peter Portmann, a 63-year-old lawmaker from Zurich, will not seek re-election to the National Council in 2027.
He has served in the national chamber since May 2014, after 19 years in Zurich’s cantonal parliament.
Portmann says he remains committed to public service and is open to running for the Council of States, Switzerland’s upper chamber.
He says that run would depend on the FDP and SVP agreeing on a joint, cross-party ticket.
The parties are expected to decide on nominations in spring 2027, after Zurich’s cantonal elections.
Zurich is currently represented in the Council of States by Tiana Moser and Daniel Jositsch.
