Attack injures several people and halts operations at Riyadh airport

An attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, injured several people on October 10.

The country’s civil aviation authority suspended airport operations to assess damage and carry out security checks, and said the number of injured was still being established.

The attack came after earlier attacks on Saudi airports this week that killed people and disrupted flights.

Yemen’s Houthi group has warned airlines against using Saudi airspace, but it had not claimed responsibility for this latest attack.

Airlines cancelled or diverted flights, and several foreign embassies advised their citizens to avoid the airport and nearby areas.

The disruption comes as Riyadh prepares to host major energy and investment conferences.

Organisers said the conferences would go ahead as planned, while airport officials said they would provide further updates as more information became available.
