Globalfoundries plans Dresden expansion and new chip process
Globalfoundries plans to expand its Dresden factories, raising their annual capacity to about one million 300-millimeter wafers by the end of 2028.
It also wants to develop FDX Fusion, a process designed for chips that combine computing with functions such as radio signals or sensing.
The company says its logic performance could be similar to that of some 7-nanometer-class processes.
The technology could be used in devices such as car sensors, radar and wireless-connected microcontrollers, but its development depends on European project funding.
