A touchscreen MacBook Pro may be coming, but the Mac and iPad remain separate

Apple is reportedly planning another hardware event near the end of October, following a separate event about smart-home products.

The later event is expected to feature an OLED iPad mini and a MacBook Pro with an OLED screen.

The MacBook Pro is also rumored to gain a touchscreen, which would let people control macOS by tapping the display.

Apple already offers a way to use touch controls on a Mac through an iPad, with Sidecar in macOS 27 and iPadOS 27.

The columnist uses an iPad Pro with a keyboard as a notebook and argues that the iPad should be able to run macOS instead of remaining separate from the Mac.

The next step is the expected hardware event, where Apple may reveal the new devices.
