Indonesia Backs Egypt’s Efforts to Secure Nile Water Rights

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto said his country supports Egypt’s efforts to secure its water rights to the Nile River.

He made the statement during a meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on October 11, 2026.

Prabowo said water issues should be handled in line with international law and with the shared interests of the region in mind.

El-Sisi called the Nile a lifeline for the Egyptian people and said Egypt rejects anything that could threaten its water security.

The statements show Indonesia backing Egypt’s position on access to the river’s water.

El-Sisi also said he hopes to expand cooperation between Indonesia and Egypt.

The leaders did not announce any further steps on the Nile water issue.
