N95 masks can filter haze particles, but fit and air quality matter
Haze contains fine particles that can irritate the eyes and throat and worsen breathing problems.
A properly fitted N95 can filter many fine particles, but surgical and fabric masks do not offer the same protection.
Doctors say healthy people generally do not need an N95 for a regular commute.
When air quality is very poor, people at higher risk should reduce or avoid time outdoors.
