Woman says she has kept six-stone weight loss off for 11 years

Pauline Smith, 75, from March in Cambridgeshire, says she has lost six stone and kept the weight off for 11 years.

She went from 17st 8lb and a size 26 to 11st 10lb and a size 14.

Smith says she began using food for comfort after childhood bullying and later relied on it while grieving the loss of her baby son and sister.

In 2013, she was breathless when walking and had taken medication for high blood pressure for about ten years.

After avoiding the scales at a hospital appointment, she joined a local Slimming World group and lost 1st 7lb in six weeks.

She later had a life-threatening medical emergency and major surgery, but continued losing weight until she reached her target.

Smith says planning meals, adapting favourite recipes and finding other ways to handle difficult emotions helped her change her relationship with food; she also says she no longer needs blood pressure medication and is more active.
