Carthage music festival returns with focus on Tunisia’s local artists
The Carthage Music Festival held its 11th edition in Tunis after a break of nearly two years.
Its audience was mainly young people, and a packed 1,800-seat hall watched Tunisian rapper VIPA perform with 20 musicians.
Other acts included Saharage, which combines heavy metal with North African sounds, and Molka Aouij, whose show mixes Arabic music, electronic and pop music, dance and visual storytelling.
The festival featured 26 groups from 15 countries, selected from 378 applications.
At least 60% of the artists were Tunisian, reflecting the event’s focus on the local music scene.
The festival’s return restored its place in the cultural life of Tunisia’s capital, but no plans for a future edition were given.
