Dollymine festival draws record crowd to rural Australian town

Narromine, a small town in rural New South Wales, held its fifth Dollymine festival, a tribute to country music star Dolly Parton.

The festival took place after Parton died in August, making this the first one since her death.

Organisers sold a record 1,600 tickets, nearly half the town’s population.

Fans dressed as Parton, while local performers, line dancers and drag queens took part.

The event began as a community effort to help revive Narromine after a severe drought from 2017 to 2019.

Organisers say it also gives the town a chance to show what small communities can offer.

The festival has grown since it first ran in 2022.
