Lachie Whitfield joins Carlton in trade with GWS
Lachie Whitfield has joined Carlton from GWS in a trade during the 2026 AFL trade period.
Carlton also received draft picks 31 and 50, while GWS received picks 25 and 26 and Carlton’s 2028 third-round pick.
Whitfield is a two-time All-Australian who has played 278 games across 14 seasons and won GWS’s best and fairest award twice.
He has averaged more than 28 disposals in 2026, and Carlton expects his consistent ball use and experience to strengthen the team.
The move brings Whitfield together at Carlton with former GWS teammate Nick Haynes, as well as players he knew from their junior club.
Carlton says it identified a need for a playmaker and a key forward and has recruited Whitfield and Joel Amartey to fill those roles.
