Baxter aims to win back Exeter fans after low Sandy Park turnout
Exeter Chiefs beat Newcastle 34-28 at Sandy Park on Sunday, but the home crowd was small.
Just 7,071 fans attended, even though the ground can hold 15,600 and the club had cut ticket prices earlier in the month.
Exeter also closed the North Terrace for the first time at a league match.
The turnout was lower than the 8,682 at the club’s first home league game of the season against Gloucester.
Director of rugby Rob Baxter said his job is to build a team that performs well and wins to help bring fans back.
He said the club is also looking at off-field issues, and those efforts are ongoing.

What people are saying
The job I have to do to help build the crowd is to make sure the team perform well and win games of rugby.
When you have a fairly poor crowd there are things off the field that you have to address and look at as well.
