Three CJP leaders placed under preventive arrest before Jantar Mantar protest

Three leaders of the Cockroach Janta Party, Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, were placed under preventive arrest in Delhi.

They were taken into custody from a flight after it landed at the Delhi airport on Saturday.

The arrests came on the second day of the group’s planned protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

The party is demanding his resignation over alleged irregularities in the revision of electoral rolls and voter lists.

Police used provisions of India’s criminal procedure law that allow arrests to prevent a possible offence or maintain peace.

The leaders were due to be presented before an executive magistrate in Delhi Cantonment on Sunday.

A party member said protesters would march to Jantar Mantar again and continue their agitation until Kumar resigns.
