Chu Mi-ae rejects claim she neglects Gyeonggi duties for national politics

Gyeonggi Governor Chu Mi-ae faced questions at a National Assembly audit held at the provincial government office in Suwon on October 13.

People Power Party lawmaker Park Sang-ung said her social media posts focused more on national politics than on local issues.

He pointed to posts criticizing the nomination of a candidate to lead the Serious Crimes Investigation Agency and to comments about criminal justice policy.

Chu said personal political views were not the focus of the audit and that her official work was available through the province’s public channels.

She said she had not neglected her duties, adding that much of her time in her first three months had gone to addressing the province’s financial emergency.

The exchange highlighted a dispute over how a governor’s public political comments relate to her responsibilities for local government.
