Democratic Party urges discipline for three ruling-party lawmakers over audit remarks

South Korea’s Democratic Party has criticized three People Power Party lawmakers over their conduct during National Assembly audits.

The lawmakers are Kim Tae-gyu, Lee Jin-sook and Joo Jin-woo.

Democratic Party leaders said Joo used a deadly building-collapse accident in Daegu for political attacks and condemned a social media comment they said appeared to suggest death.

They also criticized Lee for visiting a cemetery where President Lee Jae-myung’s parents are buried to raise an alleged farmland-law violation.

Kim was criticized for referring during an audit to the site where former President Roh Moo-hyun died.

The Democratic Party says the remarks and actions were inappropriate and has called on the People Power Party to start disciplinary proceedings against the three lawmakers.

The People Power Party had not issued a position on the matter, according to the Democratic Party.
