Police Detain 24 in Drug Raids in West Jakarta

On Friday, October 9, a joint team raided two areas in West Jakarta known as Kampung Ambon and Kampung Boncos.

The operation involved police, Indonesia’s National Narcotics Agency and military personnel, among others.

Officials said the raids were part of a wider, simultaneous crackdown on illegal drug sales across Indonesia.

The team detained 24 people: 16 in Kampung Ambon and eight in Kampung Boncos.

Officials found places where people could rent a spot and equipment to use drugs, and reported that drugs had been hidden in rooms and motorbikes.

Seized items included methamphetamine, cannabis, weighing scales, drug-use equipment and sharp weapons.

Police said the detained people would be investigated and given urine tests, while the seized items would be examined further.
