Russia’s Yegor Kornev sets 50m butterfly short-course world record

Russian swimmer Yegor Kornev set a world record in the men’s short-course 50-meter butterfly.

He clocked 21.28 seconds at a Swimming World Cup meet in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan.

That was faster than the previous record of 21.32 seconds, set by Switzerland’s Noe Ponti at the short-course world championships in December 2024.

The record is for the short-course event, not the long-course version.

Kornev had also tied Australian Kyle Chalmers’ short-course 100-meter freestyle world record of 44.84 seconds in Baku the previous week.

The new mark makes Kornev the record-holder in the 50-meter event.
