Investigators examine DNA test changes in the Garlasco case

A DNA test on a bicycle pedal first produced a partial result, then identified the DNA as Chiara Poggi’s about three hours later.

Prosecutors are now examining whether investigators may have mixed up that sample with DNA from a spoon used at breakfast.

They are also checking how and when the result was shared, as two tests the next day reportedly showed no result and were not given to the parties.

The questions matter because the DNA evidence played a role in the investigation of Poggi’s killing.
