Kostecki and Hazelwood win Bathurst 1000 after rival runs out of fuel

Brodie Kostecki and Todd Hazelwood won the Bathurst 1000 at Mount Panorama in Australia.

Their Ford Mustang had fallen behind after a lengthy brake change, while Anton De Pasquale and Lee Holdsworth appeared set to win in their Chevrolet Camaro.

A late safety car brought the leading cars together for a short run to the finish.

Team 18 had taken less fuel at De Pasquale’s final pit stop to protect its lead, but the car did not have enough to finish.

De Pasquale ran out of fuel on the final lap and retired, allowing Kostecki and Hazelwood to take the win.

It is the pair’s second Bathurst 1000 victory.

Will Brown and Scott Pye finished second, while Aaron Seton and Zach Bates took third for Matt Stone Racing.

I didn’t know we were so close on fuel. I don’t know what’s happened. Obviously massive disappointment.
