Pirelli unveils custom tires for the Mercedes-AMG F1 safety car
Pirelli has introduced the P Zero R, a high-performance tire designed for the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Pro 4Matic+ used as the official Formula One safety car.
The car has a 612-horsepower V8 engine and an all-wheel-drive system that can vary how power is delivered.
Pirelli and Mercedes-AMG developed the tire together using computer simulations and track testing.
Its two rubber compounds and custom tread pattern are intended to provide grip and precise steering on dry roads while helping the car stay controlled in wet conditions.
The tire was tested at Germany’s Nürburgring and Italy’s Nardò circuit.
It is a 21-inch tire marked “MO1” to identify it as a Mercedes-AMG-specific product.
Pirelli has supplied tires exclusively to Formula One since 2011, and its agreement with the sport runs through 2028.
