Mexico contracts for up to 2.5 million COVID-19 vaccines through 2030
Mexico’s state-run Birmex has awarded a contract to private company Laboratorios Liomont for up to 2.5 million COVID-19 vaccines.
The contract sets a minimum value of $700 million and a maximum of $1.75 billion before taxes.
Deliveries began on September 13 and are scheduled to continue through December 31, 2030.
The deal comes after Mexico’s planned Patria vaccine failed to move into production, despite earlier promises that it would be available.
Birmex says seasonal vaccination can help reduce hospital stays and deaths, especially among vulnerable people.
The vaccines must be kept within specified temperature limits during storage and transport, or Birmex can reject them.
The contract does not say how many doses will be delivered in each year.
