‘That Day’s Taeju’ explores how rumors follow a woman who tries to escape

‘That Day’s Taeju’ is the first feature film by South Korean director Im Ha-yeon.

It follows Taeju, a 28-year-old graduate student who hears people gossiping about her and leaves town by train.

She stays at a guesthouse run by someone she knows and meets people, including a street magician, but the rumors continue to follow her.

Im said the story began with her own experience of becoming the subject of rumors and her questions about how talk spreads.

The film was shot in South Korea’s Namhae area and uses a structure that repeats one day, with differences shaped by Taeju’s changing attitude.

The film is competing at the 31st Busan International Film Festival, where Im and actors Park Han-sol and Kim Woo-gyeom presented it.
