New method identifies two scales of disorder in ultrathin semiconductors
Twisting two ultrathin semiconductor layers creates complex patterns in the light they emit.
A new method looks at how that light changes across the material to detect two kinds of disorder: broad variations and tiny defect-like traps.
It does this without needing to identify every source of light in the signal.
The approach could help researchers assess materials for optical and quantum devices.
