Lower government spending helps contain Mexico’s fiscal deficit
The government spent less than planned in the first eight months of 2026.
Lower debt costs helped bring the fiscal deficit down by 0.1% in real annual terms.
The Finance Ministry expects total spending to end the year below its approved budget.
Some gaps may be temporary, and officials say spending could rise later in the year, including support for Pemex.
