Pro-Palestinian rallies across Australia call for peace in Gaza
Pro-Palestinian supporters gathered in capital cities and regional locations across Australia for the Global Day for Gaza.
The rallies marked lives lost during three years of Israel's campaign in Gaza, launched after the October 7 Hamas attack.
In Hobart, hundreds marched along the waterfront and later heard speakers at the Tasmanian Parliament; about 100 people gathered in Newcastle.
Demonstrators called for peace in Gaza and the West Bank and for Australia to end its arms trade with Israel.
The Gaza health ministry says more than 74,000 Palestinians have been killed and more than 175,000 injured in Gaza, while the UN estimates 1.9 million people have been displaced.
