Authorities monitor Tijuana waterways as storm Rachel brings rain forecast

Mexico’s National Water Commission is monitoring rivers, a stream and a dam in Tijuana, Baja California, as rain is forecast from storm Rachel.

The sites being watched are the Abelardo L. Rodríguez dam, the Tijuana River and Alamar stream.

The dam is 44% full, holding 34 million cubic metres of water.

The agency says the river and stream have not risen significantly and do not currently pose a risk to residents.

Crews have also cleared obstructions from the Tijuana River channel.

The commission is working with the Baja California government to monitor the water infrastructure.

It urges residents to follow local and civil protection authorities’ instructions and check official updates.
