Lula criticizes election court chief over suspension of campaign WhatsApp channel
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva criticized Kassio Nunes Marques, head of the Superior Electoral Court, after he ordered a WhatsApp channel supporting Lula’s campaign to be suspended.
The channel, called “Lula’s Army,” was created by lawmaker André Janones to share campaign material.
The order came after a request from the campaign of Lula’s rival, Flávio Bolsonaro.
Electoral court official Ricardo Villas Bôas Cueva later overturned the suspension and said the channel could operate until the full court considers the case.
Lula said the court must show what law the channel broke and treat all campaigns equally.
He also said his campaign would continue using WhatsApp.
The full court is expected to review the dispute, but no date is given.
