Jailbroken PS5s Can Use Some PS2 Discs for Emulation
A new version of PS5SX2 lets jailbroken PlayStation 5 consoles copy and run games from some PlayStation 2 discs.
The emulator, which is an AI-assisted project, is made for PS5s that have been modified to run unofficial software.
The PS5 can read Blu-ray and DVD discs, but not CDs.
Some PS2 games are on CDs, so those discs will not work, and neither will PS1 discs, which also use CDs.
This means the new feature does not support every PS2 game on disc.
The developer says a separate PS3 emulator that can copy games from discs is in the works.
The developer has also suggested support for PS1 discs, but the console’s CD-reading limit remains a problem.
A new version of the PS5SX2 emulator lets some jailbroken PlayStation 5 consoles copy and emulate games from physical PlayStation 2 discs.
PS5SX2 version 2.01 reads discs and copies their contents to the console’s SSD or an external hard drive.
The PS5’s disc drive cannot read CDs, so the emulator cannot use blue-tinted PS2 discs or PlayStation 1 discs.
PS5SX2’s lead coder, Swordpdf, says a PS3 emulator that can copy games from discs is in development.
