Calamity’s Discord server hijacked to promote a cryptocurrency scam

Calamity’s Discord server hijacked to promote a cryptocurrency scam

The Discord server for Calamity, a popular mod for the game Terraria, was taken over on October 9.

Before the takeover, it had more than 250,000 members.

The mod’s developers had said in August that they were stopping development, and it remained unfinished.

The server owner was reportedly tricked into handing over access by two people posing as former moderators.

The hackers posted links to a cryptocurrency named after the server, and the coin was quickly promoted and then dumped.

A former moderator wiped the server’s channels and messages, but the hackers continued posting in the only channel left.

Tens of thousands of members have left, and moderators warned users not to engage with the cryptocurrency.
