Rain postpones NASCAR O'Reilly race at Charlotte until Sunday night

Rain postpones NASCAR O'Reilly race at Charlotte until Sunday night

Heavy rain at Charlotte Motor Speedway in North Carolina disrupted NASCAR's Saturday schedule.

NASCAR canceled practice and qualifying for both the O'Reilly Auto Parts Series and the Cup Series.

The O'Reilly race, scheduled for Saturday afternoon, was postponed until Sunday after the Cup race, which is still planned for 3 p.m.

Eastern time.

Carson Kvapil is set to start first in the O'Reilly race, while championship leader Sheldon Creed will start eighth.

Creed leads Kvapil by 19 points, so the postponed race could affect their championship contest.

NASCAR said rain from the remnants of Hurricane Isaias prompted the schedule changes.

Fans are tentatively expected to have access to the parking lots from 8 a.m.

Sunday, with pre-race activities planned before the Cup race.
