Hwaseong plans dinosaur science center for 2029 opening
Hwaseong city in South Korea plans to build a science center about dinosaurs at its dinosaur egg fossil site in Songsan-myeon.
The center is planned to open in the first half of 2029 and will include exhibits, learning spaces for children and research facilities.
Its exhibits will feature dinosaur egg fossils, a horned dinosaur fossil found in Hwaseong and fossils from a Korea-Mongolia exploration project.
Dinosaur egg fossils were first found near Lake Sihwa in 1999, and the surrounding area was designated a natural monument the following year.
A new horned dinosaur species, named Koreaceratops hwaseongensis, was unearthed in 2008.
The city says the center will help visitors learn about local natural heritage and support the preservation and study of fossils still buried in the protected area.
Hwaseong plans to complete the center’s detailed design by January and begin construction in March.
