Women pay up to $4,500 for retreats focused on expressing anger

Women are attending retreats that give them space to explore anger without being judged.

Lumalia Emmy Armstrong runs small, women-only sessions in the woods near Portland, Oregon, while the Bay Area CBT Center offers retreats that include therapy.

Armstrong charges $600 for a 3.5-hour session; the center advertises five-day and seven-day packages for $3,500 and $4,500.

Participants may use sound and movement, discuss what has triggered their anger, and examine beliefs that make it hard to say no or set boundaries.

Organizers say some attendees are dealing with divorce, illness, breakups or changes in their religious beliefs.

The aim is not simply to scream, but to understand what anger may be signaling and decide how to respond.

The center says 84 women and two men have expressed interest, though only women have attended so far.
