Israeli strikes kill at least five Palestinians in Gaza, officials say

Two Israeli strikes killed at least five Palestinians in the Gaza Strip on Saturday, according to Gaza health officials.

Four people were killed near Panda Mall in Gaza City, and one was killed in the Tuffah neighbourhood.

Israel’s military said the strikes targeted Hamas militants, but gave no further details.

The attacks came a year after Israel and Hamas agreed to a ceasefire.

The truce envisioned rebuilding Gaza, disarming Hamas and an Israeli troop withdrawal, but little progress has been made on the wider deal.

Israel says Hamas has been rearming and violating the ceasefire; Hamas denies this and accuses Israel of undermining the truce.

Gaza health officials say at least 1,400 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire since the ceasefire began, while Israel says militants have killed four of its soldiers.

The sources do not say what happens next.
