TinyJS aims to make small desktop apps with JavaScript

Software engineer Tarwin Stroh-Spijer has created TinyJS, a tool for making small desktop apps with JavaScript, HTML and CSS.

It is designed for macOS, Windows and Linux, and many apps made with it take up about 6MB or less.

Instead of including its own browser, TinyJS uses the webview already built into each operating system to display an app.

This can make apps smaller than those built with Electron, which bundles a browser and can make even a basic app about 150MB.

The trade-off is that TinyJS apps may look slightly different across operating systems.

Developers can use JavaScript frameworks such as React, Vue and Svelte, or build apps without extra dependencies.

Stroh-Spijer has also made a collection with 25 free sample apps, including a world clock, a clipboard history tool and a markdown editor.
