XFG COVID-19 variant evades antibodies, but no greater severity reported

COVID-19 keeps changing, and XFG is now the most common variant worldwide.

Lab tests suggest it can get around antibodies better than earlier variants, so more people may catch it.

But there is no evidence so far that it causes more severe illness or more deaths.

Vaccines and past infections still appear to protect most people from serious illness.
